N.A.M.E. Obituaries

HOPE MILLS - Marvin R.T. Parrish, 86, of Hope Mills, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011, in his home. Mr. Parrish was a World War II veteran with the US Army Air Corps. He was a longtime member of Hope Mills United Methodist Church and former president of the Highland Chapter of the AARP. He was also a former member of the Fayetteville Jaycees and the Fayetteville Exchange Club, as well as a lifetime honorary member of the Mid-Atlantic Newspaper and Marketing Executives. He retired after being employed for 29 years as advertising director with the Fayetteville Publishing Co. A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, June 3, 2011, at Hope Mills United Methodist Church with Dr. Dennis Sheppard officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Mr. Parrish leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Elizabeth Parrish; sons, Douglas Parrish and his wife, Susan, of Fayetteville, and Richard Parrish of Hope Mills; sister, Juanita Gilchrist and her husband, Al, of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Mills United Methodist Church, 4955 Legion Road, Hope Mills, NC 28348. Services entrusted to Reeves Funeral Home of Hope Mills.


Judy Inez Scantland, former DNJ ad director dies

Judy Inez Scantland, age 57, died December 5, 2010.
She was a native of Murfreesboro and daughter of the late Charlie Ernest and Nanny Lovell Lawson Scantland.

Ms. Scantland is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Glenna and Tim Westbrooks of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Taylor, Faith and Elijah Westbrooks; a brother, Carl Scantland of Walter Hill; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms. Scantland was employed at the Murfreesboro Medical Clinic in patient services, and was formerly the classified and advertising director for The Daily News Journal. She was a member of Walter Hill Church of Christ.
