Scholarship Auction Generates $1,017!

The Scholarship Foundation committee would like to say "Thank You Very Much" to all those who participated in the silent auction...either for furnishing items and/or purchasing them. Have to admit that we were just a tiny bit concerned at first as to the number of items we might have, but have no fear, you all came through.

Some of the items included were: framed Charleston print "Storm on the Battery"; a Jack Daniels package with tour, lunch and private tasting for 2; box seat for 6 for a 3-day spring Tennessee Walking Horse show in Shelbyville TN; golf clubs, golfballs, putting sets and signed copies of popular golf books; beach towel/flip flop set; linen/leather tote; Charleston History Book sets; a night's stay at the Blockade Runner and the Sheraton Read House Hotel (Chattanooga); popular cookbooks; Omaha Steak gift card; Coastal bread basket (with bread); GoTo Team cooler & thermos plus other items.

We also would like to thank those who have given the Scholarship Foundation a cash donation when renewing their annual membership dues this year.

Congratulations to Andrew Scott Kinomoto of Bob Jones University as the 2011 Alex Busick Scholarship Award winner. We are grateful that he could attend the conference to receive his award and to be recognized among the industry professionals in our membership. It's pretty impressive to be able to award a $5,000 scholarship to a deserving student each year.

Again, a hearty "thank you" for supporting the Scholarship Foundation.

catch the NAME wave
As we celebrate the new year, it’s seems that it’s as good a time as ever to reflect on the value that Mid Atlantic brings to our companies and all that it means to be a member.

First and foremost, we’re family. The friendships that we make through Mid Atlantic are ones that we will always treasure in both our personal and professional lives. I can’t count the number of times this year our members have sent out emails to the group asking for advice and ideas to help them navigate some issue they’ve encountered. And each time there are always lots of responses, usually within hours, offering advice and sage counsel.

And, when one of us has a tough time – whether from illness or acts of nature or searching for a new job opportunity - this group is there to help and offer encouragement.

Secondly, we have years of media experience that we’re happy to share with each other. The networking among this group is second to none. And in today’s tough media climate, experience truly counts for a lot.

Third, think about how much we learn at our annual conference. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t come away with at least one, if not many, ideas that I could share with our clients to help them improve a revenue picture. In today’s world of instant electronic communication just being able to talk to someone face-to-face makes a huge difference.

I can’t wait to see everyone again in April at the 2012 conference. Bill and Leslie have done an outstanding job in lining up some terrific speakers on some terrific and timely topics. And, of course, Ed and Johnna have worked their magic to put together a fun experience for us in Chattanooga. We’ll be ‘Rockin’ to the Top for sure!

All the best - Sue
